Plumbing
Water is the most precious and essential commodity that you need to have on a daily basis to survive. Fresh clean water comes to your home through your water pipes and dirty water and sewage leaves through your sewage pipes. Your plumbing system in your home allows this constant inflow and outflow of water. Everything seems to be fine until you notice a leak or a backup in the system. Fortunately if you knowWater heater and other plumbing enough about plumbing and have some tools and supplies, you probably can take care of the minor repairs yourself. However if you are planning new construction, an addition, a sprinkler system, bathroom remodeling, kitchen renovation or any other major repairs you need the service of a professional plumber from The Homevision network. Plumbers are licensed, insured, and bonded tradesmen. Plumbers can help you by repairing your leaks, installing a hut tub or water heater, they can fix sewer back up problems, as well as install or repair a gas line. How it works

Water basically enters your home through main supply pipes which is either connected to the city water line or to a well. The system is usually set up like this : you have an outside shutoff valve, then a water meter, and then a main house gate shutoff valve before water travels through your service entrance pipe to your water heater. Then your pipes will connect to the cold and hot water supply throughout the home to all your sinks, bathrooms, showers, laundry, and toilets. At the same time you have a return pipe and sewer pipe that gets connected to the main house drain for waste water disposal with the main vent stack and secondary vent stack going through your roof for ventilation. Under all of your sinks you have either have a p-trap for newer homes or s-trap for older homes. You also have water shutoff valves under every sink for cold and hot water as well as before and/or after the water heater. If you happen to have natural gas, you also have a gas line through your home similar to your water line system with some exceptions that they are usually black and they washer&dryer roughingrun from your main gas supply line outside of your home, to a gas meter, then to a main shutoff gate valve, then through your appliances, fireplaces, and outdoor BBQ. It is very important to have a professional install and inspect all your gas lines for any damages or leaks. The risk of an eroded or leaking system is potentially deadly for all occupants of your house. If you smell gas in your home turn the shut off valve to the off position, exit your home immediately and call a professional.

Tools and materials
Go to any plumbing supplies or local hardware store and you will see a lot of shelves full of plumbing tools and different pipes. You need a lot of tools to just do minor plumbing repairs like: a pipe wrench, a reciprocating saw, a hacksaw, measuring tape, adjustable wrenches, a utility knife, rib-joint pliers, a torque wrench, a metal pipe cutter, a propane torch, a cast-iron snap cutter, and a toilet plunger to just mention a few. As far as your plumbing pipes are concerned there are basically three types: copper, steel, and pvc (polyvinyl chloride).

Three types of pipes
1. Copper comes in two styles, soft-temper copper or hard-temper copper. In new construction copper is used the most. The reason most builder prefer using copper pipes is because copper is lightweight, rugged, easy to work with, and corrosion resistant.

2. Steel pipes come in three styles: black steel pipes, zinc-coated galvanized steel pipes or green coated steel pipes. Black steel pipes are used mostly for gas lines. Galvanized steel pipes not only corrodes faster than copper pipes, but also collect deposits faster and clog faster. Green steel pipes are usually buried outdoor for the installation of a natural gas line.

3. Plastic pipes comes in rigid and flexible varieties. Although major plumbing codes or the Federal Housing Administration accepts these pipes some local building codes might not. There are two types of rigid pipes: schedule 40 PVC pipe or schedule 80 PVC pipe. Plastic pipes are less flow resistant, lightweight, inexpensive, and easy to cut and work with. There are two types pf flexible pipes PB (polyethylene) for hot and cold lines or PE (polyethylene) for cold lines only.
