A ceiling can help enlarge or contract the volume of the room by a means of vertical dimension, enhancing the definition of your space. However you can manipulate the elements to create a number of different effects. By increasing or decreasing the height of a ceiling you can either add more volume to the space or reduce volume to make the place more cozy. You can dress up your ceiling just like your walls either by paint, wallpaper, tiles or wood paneling. You can have a suspended ceiling to lower the height. You probably have seen examples of suspended ceilings in a commercial applications such as offices, retail stores or supermarkets. Another option is to use texture to give your ceiling a dramatic look. You can always add insulation or sound insulation if the sound is a concern to you.

Installation

They are easy to cut with a utility knife, but make sure you wear safety glass, safety mask and safety gloves. Cover your head and body with overalls because the material will make you very itchy if it falls on your skin. Installation is simple. When you purchase your panels and grids, installation instructions from manufacturers are included. All components are replaceable and sold separately. Just make sure when your measuring and designing the location of your grids plan to create equal-sized boarders on each side of the ceiling. You can paint the panels in just about any color you like and it is recommended that you paint them before installation. You can have an HVAC duct and ceiling lights attached to your suspended ceiling by just cutting into the panels. If you want a complete installation done by a pro just click here. If you decide to texture your ceiling yourself there are two methods to approach. One is by hand, you get a bucket of drywall joint compound, and with a drywall taping knife you create a pattern on the ceiling, and continuously do the same pattern until you are done. The second method is by a special spray machine that you can either buy or rent from an equipment rental place. You put your joint compound in the bucket, mix it with paint, stir it pretty good till it become almost like a thick liquid then spray it on the ceiling. Its a very messy job but the result is good looking textured ceiling. (Continue top right)
